Because the same homies that make it to the funeral end up getting too tapped and fall victim to the same cursed cycle. The same homies that skipped d funeral cause they’ve already been to too many to count…

For context, I am from Bermuda, a 21sq mile island with about 63,000 inhabitants. Everyone knows everyone basically, and if you don’t, you know at least someone in their family. We ride motor bikes from 16 years young and drive cars / trucks / whatever from 18. THE ISLAND IS 21SQ MILES. It takes about an hour at most to get from one end of the island to the next. There is literally no need to rush anywhere, but for some reason we have this saying “stay wide or don’t ride!” basically encouraging speeding. The road fatality rate is devastating. At least everyone (that I know at least) has been effected in some way by a road fatality, yet…the cursed cycle continues.
I wrote this after being off island for a month in a completely slow paced environment. I was waiting for the bus one day (my fav way to practice slowing down and mindfulness), and within seconds there were pure ( our way of saying 'a lot') cars and bikes speeding up the road.
Something I tell all of my friends and family: “BE SAFE OR GET SLAPPED”! And yes, I have had to slap several of my friends.
